Small Games Sunday: Nathan's Second Chance

Alright, this game is awesome! It reminds me of Grim Fandango or the Monkey Island games, except in this one you play a dead guy trying to repair his relationship with his estranged daughter. It looks like it was done with MSpaint, but that just adds to it's appeal. This is a great game, and the best part is it's 100% Free! No Demo, just free! Enjoy.

My E3 Predictions

Alright, since I'm the closest thing to an omniscient superbeing I will tell you my predictions for this years E3.

Microsoft:
The Halo 3 Trailer will amaze, but very few details will be provided about the game.
Viva Pinata and Gears of War will be pumped like crazy.
HD-DVD and Webcam will be big features.
A Big announcement for the XBLA/Marketplace.
Finally some real news on the Direct TV deal.

Sony:
New MGS4 previews.
Playable system.
No pricing details yet.
Controller re-design revealed (if they really did one).
Dissapointing Sony HUB.

Nintendo:
System won't be playable.
No price or date.
Finally see system in action for real.
Big surprise noone expects.

Others:
Some booth totally disregards new babe policy.
Girl game clans featured heavy.
Duke Nukem Forever still not out.

Alright, it's not much and I know nothing, but at least I'm grouse enough to admit it.

Live Action Mario!

Oh that jump Man and his non-working stars.

Not Really a Game Commercial: Sonic CD

This is the opening of Sonic CD to Queen. It's awesomerific!

Wow, that was quick

Call me a hypocrit, but you know what, I'll be damned if the whole Wii name hasn't grown on me. Yeah, o.k. it's been an hour tops since I heard about it, but thinking about it, it's not that bad. I mean really, look at any other consol name and tell me it's better. The Xbox, Playstation? Hell, even the Genesis is a little weird. But you know what, that's o.k. I think Nintendo's got a marketing gem up their sleve, if people can get past the toilet jokes.

Are you f_cking kidding me?!

Turns out Revolution was just a codename. The system is now officially known as Wii. Pronounced "We". Reggie-Fils-Aime, I HATE YOU! O.k. maybe I shouldn't pass judgement until after E3, but until then will someone please come up with a better name through abreviation, like the SNES or the N64? Maybe we'll just call it the Revolution and ignore this marketing blunder.

Turn the Valve 360 degrees

Valve has released news that they are working on a project for the 360. Could it be episodic? Maybe it's Half-Life related? I guess we'll know after E3.

GameLife show brings something special

O.k., this one's for all of those that thought my show was retarded. I don't know how the hell this exists! There's a bunch of really weird stereotypical gamers, then BAM! Melissa does a review for Cooking Mama with more sexual innuendo than I ever thought possible. "I can skewer meat all day long." It's worth sticking around after for little other than that weird guy and his bongos and an apearance by Ultimate Spider-Man. But make sure you watch the end for the Pump It Up Zero Review, that kid is insane!

Kameo contest for fledgling game artists

Rare's having a "design your own Kameo skin" contest, all you have to do is send them a sketch or two of some propsed skin remodels and the best ones will be made into a content download for free! Sounds like a fun way to get your first taste of video game design if you (like myself) have no real skill or connections.

Verizon brings more Free Xbox Live!

All week long during E3, Verizon will give gamers the chance to experience Xbox Live Gold for free! They're also doing another 1,000,000 (That's a million!) point giveaway, so keep posted for news on that. They'll also be having special E3 content all week long and tournaments and events galore. Sounds like fun!

Marc Ecko doesn't hate gamers?

Marc Ecko, "fashion" designer and hater off those "pissy gamers" sent a whole bunch of special black "Blame Video Games" t-shirts to many popular bloggers (I'm not popular). He sends the message that if anyone who's bought his game has ever been hassled by "the man" for playing games, send him a picture and an adress and he'll be glad to send you a shirt. Maybe he ain't so bad after all.

Coming up for the XBLA

There's been a slew of titles announced that are coming to the Xbox Live Arcade recently. Although we're still waiting for Street Fighter II and Texas Hold 'em, I can't help but get excited for the newly announced titles in production.

The first up is UNO, yeah that's right UNO. That crazy (8) card game enjoyed by families and post-apocalyptic totalitarian dictators alike. The game's going to have multiple modes and Xbox Live support, so you know it'll be quite the attraction to the supposed "family" demographic.

Next Midway's announced a whole bunch of titles they're working on. Mortal Kombat 3 being the headliner they've also got Paperboy, Defender, Cyberball and "Root"beer Tapper in the works. Unfortunately no release dates have been given yet, but having seen their previous success on the XBLA my guess is it won't be long.

Namco's counter to this is the announcement at the GDC of both Pac-Man and Galaga making appearances, both featuring Live support in the form of multiplayer games and leaderboards.

Lastly Microsoft's constant quest for indie content has brought quite a few interesting ideas to the table. I posted about Cloning Clyde earlier, NinjaBee's crazy platformer/puzzle/comedy game. But a new racing title called MadTracks by Load Inc. is in development and is to play omething more akin to MarioKart. Novadrome by Stainless Games is also in development. The zany 3-on-3 basketball game HoopWorld by Streamline studios and the Unreal 3 enginized RoboBlitz by Naked Sky Entertainment are recieving their finishing touches.

With all these games being released before the end of this summer you'd think that'd be plenty of licensing for the Microsoft marketing guys, but SEGA has recently gone into partnership with the XBLA team and will be offering the same games that will appear on Nintendo's virtual console. But even that seems not enough as rumour (take it as you will) has it MS has started working deals to incorperate a legal version of M.A.M.E. to the dashboard.

I can't wait to find out if that M.A.M.E. rumour is ture, but regardless, I think I'm going to need some more MS points.

Flashmob: Zombie Attack

If you've never heard of Flashmob.com here's a brief explanation. A website called Flashmob.com has events posted on it, people read these and follow the instructions under the pretences many other people will follow them as well. The end result is hilarious tandem scenarios improved by enthusiasts that leave onlookers baffled as they disapear into the night.

I found this one for Toronto, it's a zombie attack at Young and Bloor this weekend. It'll be just like Stubbs the Zombie live-action. Anyone interested post in the comments, let's see if we can rassle a group to join the fun.

Here's the Post:

Zombies Attack! - Toronto Ontario
[submitted-2006-04-24 05:25:53 PST]
This Sunday (April 23rd) be at the corner of Younge and Bloor. At exactly 7:00 PM start twitching momentarily and then become a zombie. Start moaning and slowly walking about, getting in people's way. at exactly 7:15 PM "snap-back" and warn everyone to get away before you flee the scene.

Everyone's gearing up for E3

Looks like everyone's getting their act in gear before E3 next month. Sony's got a new site for their E3 lineup. Major Nelson's revamped his blog. Even Sega's getting in on the prE3 soul train. With E3 only a few weeks away I want to hear from you gus, what do you want me to cover? I'll be doing all the major system notes obviously, but any sideline games you've heard about that need investigation? Let me know and I'll do my best.

Dungeons and Dragons sequel out

It may not be video game news, but it's still gaming. The sequel to the Boll-sized flop, Dungeons and Dragons: The Movie, has quietly been let out onto shelves recently. I've only recently heard this and am trying to rassle up the loose change in my couch to rent this spectacle. It's got most of the same cast as before but don't let it's awesome title (Dungeons & Dragons: Wrath of the Dragon God) decieve you, this movie will likely suck. I plan on having a review for it later this month (I think I have a Free Rental at Blockbuster).

Reolution playable May 9th

For 3 lucky winners that is. Nintendo and AOL are having a contest to randomly pick 3 fans to play the Revolution early on stage at a press conference. Unfortunately it's America only and I hate the world. Winners also get a free DS and New Super Mario Bros.

World's largest waterbaloon fight

This week the record for world's largest water balloon fight was broken by over 3000 Xbox 360 fans in Australia during a huge event on Coogee Beach. Over 50,000 baloons were tossed between teams Green and Grey to celebrate the amazing 360 adoption rate in Australia, making it the most succesful system launch in the country's history. Partcipants recieved a canvas tote bag, commemorative t-shirt, sweatband, Xbox 360 goggles, enough water balloons to drench a small militia and a copy of Perfect Dark Zero, PGR3, or Kameo. Check out some of the pictures from Major Nelson's flickr site in the source.

Small Games Sunday: The Witch's Yarn

O.k. this is a really weird one. It plays more like an interactive movie than a game and I really can't figure out how to control it. Supposedly you bring in and out actors on cues (you decide) and the story advances. I don't know really. Looks aren't that great. Kinda remind me of really old Sierra games. Whatever, enjoy.

General Games Podcast Episode 3

I got bored and decided I'd try to make an episode solo (It's kinda hard gathering everyone). Looks like they'll be more regular now that I can do it on my own, but the others will still be in it when they want to. There's a bit of crackliness in the show, but that's due to my shit mike. I'll probably be picking up a new one soon. Anyway, here's the show. Enjoy.

Small Games Sunday: Marble Blast Gold

Continuing jefftheworld's quest to fake a 360 with his PC, here's Marble Blast Gold. It's not ultra, but it's just as good, right? This is another pay-for-full game, but the demo's pretty decent (I promise next week'll be 100% free!). Anyway, did I mention it was Easter themed? Well, there's hidden Easter Eggs across the levels of the game! FIND THEM!

Feedback time!

So, if you haven't noticed the site's been a little short on content lately. I've decided to up my standards on what gets posted. I'm just curious what you guys think. Do I need more PS3/Nintendo stuff? Do you guys want rumours? More on gaming culture? Should I be going for quality or quantity? Anyway, leave me your ideas/suggestions in the comments and I'll gladly implement them.

Game Commercial: Zelda Dance

O.k. I've been saving this one for a rainy day. Anyone else find the two Japanese chicks embrace a little steamy? No, I didn't either...

Bringing the war to warcraft.

Here's the backstory; A popular PVP player in World of Warcraft suffered a stroke and died. Her guild planned a funeral service for her in-game to console her guildmates. Before the funeral had barely started a rival gang came and slaughtered the entire guild. A war has been declared.

New 360 Artist of the Month: The Fray

Gamerscore Blog (Run by the Xbox Team) has reported May's Artist of the Month, The Fray. A little less pop than Bedingfield, this looks like a step in the right direction but we're definately no thtere yet. These guys are a cross between U2 and Coldplay. I haven't heard any of their stuff, but I'll be downloading their videos. They will be having several concerts, the only Canadian stop being June 13th at Toronto's Phoenix Concert Theatre. Check out the tiny video I posted just pixels below!

O.k. it wasn't much, but it's the only footgaew YouTube really had.

Game Commercial: Zelda Rap

Game industry's lacking in important (or interesting) news lately so here's my solution, a daily video game commercial I deem noteworthy.
This one's Zelda's first American TV appearance, who knew geeky white kids could rap so well. Oh, is it just me or are those guys WAY too old to be having their parents hook it up for them?

Would you like game with that?

Burger King announced development of an upcoming promotion in which for a few bucks you'll be able to add one of 3 original limited edition Burger King licensed games. There will be an action (Halo) title, a fighter (Mortal Kombat), and a racing game (TOCA). They will feature Burger King characters and will work in both Xbox and Xbox 360 systems. I can't wait to pit "THe Burger King" against "The Subservient Chicken" in a brawl to the death!

Phosphor Beta 1

We are all familiar with games like Unreal Tounament and Quake 3. Phosphor, on first glance is just another clone. Except for the fact that it runs in your browser using shockwave. This free fps may just be in beta but when it comes out with new maps, modes and skins I think it has the potential to be a big thing. Anyways, here it is. Check it out.

Gaming Exec commits Grand Theft Auto

Gizmondo Executive, Stefan Eriksson, has been arrested after a long train of incidents involving crashes, impoundings and way too many nice exotic cars. The investigations began after the total destruction of a very pretty ($1 Million) Ferrari. Since then there has been 2 other "imported" vehicles, another Ferrari (black this time) and his wife's Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren, all of which have been found illegally stolen. Oh, and Grand Theft Auto is the official chare. A little too ironic if you ask Me.

Although it's Missing an X and it's graphically inferior to it's Xbox 360 version, Outpost Kaloki by NinjaBee still has the cool space-age lemonade stand fun we all love. The demo is free, giving you 1 hour of gameplay and the full version's only $20 USD. Perfect if you like to pretend you have an Xbox 360 (jefftheworld) or can't get enough of the game (myself).

April Fools Mario Box chicks won't go to jail

Looks like a small town in Ohio has come to it's senses and has decided NOT to charge those little girls for making Mario Boxes on April Fools. Could you imagine if they did go to jail though?

"What'd you do?"
"Killed my mailman. You?"
"Um, I made a colourful box and hung it in townsquare."

Half-Life 2: Episode 1 drawing nearer

The website for HL2: Episode 1 has finally gone up, it details a bit more of the story : "In Half-Life, the G-Man made you. In Half-Life 2, he used you to defeat Dr. Breen and start the Resistance. In Episode One, he's lost control.", and has pricing info. Sin Episodes are on their way too, but this looks great DOG is back!

Xbox 360 Japan Press conference

Microsoft held a Japanese conference today and a few interesting tidbits were announced.

Here's the breakdown:
-Over 80 titles will be released in Japan by year's end
-Pac-Man and Galaga are coming to the XBLA
-More RPG titles are in the works
-Japan has the highest XBLM download rate (?!?!)
-Microsoft hasn't given up even though they're way over their heads

Microsoft buys Lionhead

After much speculation about the merger Microsoft Game Studios has official eaten Lionhead, makers of Fable, Black & White, and The Movies. What does this mean for our beloved game studio? Nothing, except now they're better funded. Plus they're making an exclusive X360 title to be announced later.

Apple's BootCamp gaming solution

Apple's new software, BootCamp allows mac users to run a full version of either Windows XP or Mac OS X at start-up. This is better than an emulator because it the XP OS uses the Apple's hardware, so no lag or slowness, pure goodness. Currently a beta is available for download. This is great for all those poor Mac "people" that have been deprived of games for so long. The question remains, will they remember HOW to play?

Hot Potion Mod

We all knew it was coming, the Oblivion nude mod is here. The mod is actually just a topless mod. While some are saying that people need to get a life and that they're "just pixels" I say they're wrong. It's beautiy digitized.

All Billy wanted was a PS3. Sony France crushed his dreams.

President of Sony France, George Fornay, has commented saying the PS3 will cost "in the range of €499 to €599 [$714 to $853 CAD]". We all knew it was going to cost alot, but DAMN! He also mentions Europe will be getting a November release and comments that the high price and delay was due to unfinished Blu-Ray tech.

UMD no more?

Although this is old news (and no surprise) UMD movies haven't been selling well. Most major movie studios are losing money on this format and are deciding to drop it. Wal-Mart is in agreeance, considering you can just rip an MPEG to it for free. Looks like Sony Studios will be the only ones producing UMD films, but as I said, noone's surprised.

Violent swordplay on the Revolution

"Katana" the codename for Ubisoft's next-gen Revolution title. It will be an FPS, but feature cool swordplay mechanics and lots of gore and violence. Not much is known, but I'm excited already.

Awesome Xbox Contests

Xbox Canada has posted 2 new contests, both equally awesome. The first is an NHL2K6 tournament to win tickets to the Stanley Cup. Second is a essay/video contest to go to E3, all expenses paid with Jade. Looks like this'd be our one chance to give REAL coverage, but yours truly isn't 21, so until we complete our old man costumes you'll be getting the substandard news your used to from us.

Next-Gen Happy Trees

Falling into the "I can't believe it's not April Fools" category it's oficial that Bob Ross, that soft-spoken painter from everyone's sick day TV memories is getting a game on the Revolution. As weird as it sounds I think this may be a great game. Painting, by moving your controller through the air. Just li-Ah who am I kidding, C'mon It's BOB ROSS! You know you will Buy it.

360 Trendwhore wristbands come to Best Buy

Apparently to accompany their new Xbox 360 shipments Best Buy has recieved a whole batch of Xbox 360 wristbands (those ones annoying schoolgirls wear) that sell for a few bucks. The proceeds go to the Boys and Girls Club.

Super Stampio

Dang, Japan gets the coolest stuff. Super Mario stamps, how cool is that? They feature pixelated original gameart and are fully functional. I'll avoid the lick plumber butt joke out of good taste.

Marble Blast Gold

I am slowly gathering every game I wanted for Xbox 360 for my PC. Now you can get your very own Marble blast game, click here to download your copy of Marble Blast Gold.

April Fools Post-Mortem

So, this year's crop of gaming April fools jokes has come and gone. We had an ignorant town in Ohio terrified that terrorists dropped Super Mario blocks in their public parks. We had J Allard and Major Nelson playing themselves silly on the unreleased Barbie Horse Adventures: Horse Rally. And maybe Funniest of all Rockstar announced that Table Tennis wasn't a joke.

O.k. I said there'd be free small games. I never promised good ones. This week we're looking at Paku Paku Smile, a weird pet sim that has you care for a smiling face. Yup. And it's boring as hell. It's only 800 KB and I'm sure it's filled with spyware. Enjoy!
